Character Aliases: Aden Nahain (default, will introduce himself as either "Aden" or "Nahain" but does not consider either to be his true name), Hand of Jadus, Legate, Major, Commander
Series name: Star Wars the Old Republic

Sex & Gender Info: Physically male. Preference for a more typically feminine gender expression re: clothes & makeup. Uses hormones so looks more feminine overall than masculine. Usually defaults to masculine pronouns but will accept any pronoun (he/she/they/it or whatever neopronouns someone might assign him) or gendered language used for him i.e. he won't correct someone even if they should refer to him as a man or as a woman or as neither. He will also use gendered language about himself depending on mood— for example calling himself a gal or a guy even if he doesn't identify as either. If asked about specifics he would come to the conclusion that he's gender apathetic/agender and genuinely doesn't care how someone else sees or refers to him.

Sexuality: Bisexual with a heavy- almost exclusive- lean toward masculine partners.
Age: 26

Appearance:
Height: 5'1"

Nine is quite short for a member of his species. Due to use of feminizing hormones he has a pear-shaped body where he's thin up top and his waist dips in but most of his weight is carried in his lower half with wider hips and fat thighs. His skin is blue, with freckles all over. He has a scar on his face, going both across from one cheek to the other and down from almost at his hairline and down through his lips, nearly to the end of his chin. His eyes are red, like the eyes of all Chiss, framed by dark lashes. His darker blue hair is kept fairly long, and is usually kept either brushed back and out of his face, or up in either messy buns or in two buns carefully tied up like bows.

One unusual trait he has that is not typical for his species is his fangs being longer and sharper than they should be. This is not a natural trait but something he's gotten done cosmetically.

He can usually also be found sporting makeup, favoring darker shades and a more party girl aesthetic with dark lipsticks and smudged/smoky eyeshadow. When it comes to how he dresses himself on his personal time, he prefers revealing feminine clothing in an alternative style and favors either darker colors or pink with a bit of an edge to it. In a more professional setting he will either choose something that makes him blend in with his environment or something neater and more in line with masculine fashion.

Health:
Nine has brain damage as a result of being brainwashed. It is something he can manage through mental exercises and medication, though he does still suffer from debilitating headaches due to it and sometimes even medicine to counteract the pain it isn't enough. The only way to notice when he has one of his episodes though is if one is very good at tracking his moods. He gets somewhat less patient and more vicious the more pain he's in. He won't usually mention that he is in pain or ask for help.

His brain damage has also resulted in him becoming overwhelmed by both too much visual and too much auditory input, making busy environments harder for him to handle which he also compensates for by getting snide if he's not playing a specific role or focused by some other purpose.

He has an addiction to painkillers due to how he handles his chronic pain.

He is gender apathetic and leans femme for his usual visual presentation so he does use hormones to keep his appearance more feminine than masculine.

Personality:
Nine is a person who's learned to cultivate many different parts of himself to cycle through on different occasions.

On the job, he is a charismatic creature. Able to slip into many different personalities depending on what the situation calls for. He can be cool-headed and commanding, he can be a flirtatious charmer or a meek wallflower, the center of the room or an unassuming shadow. His years of experience has resulted a person used to going from one mask to another, with a keen eye to see which is needed when— and he does tend to switch masks often to the point that he might be an entirely different person to entirely different people.

Indeed he is so used to cycling through them that the real him can be a bit hard to find.

One could list some of his traits— orderly, focused, cleanly. A person who likes to keep his mind busy, who enjoys a full schedule. Driven. Intelligent, observant, and ever the consummate professional. Truly an asset both to the Empire and to those with whom his true loyalty lies, the Chiss Ascendancy. A person with an ever shifting moral compass— that he might not have checked whether or not it's still working because he finds that moral compasses have a tendency of getting in his way. A prideful and determined person, who has been bent and broken so many times before that he made the decision to tie his fate to someone truly awful due to wanting the authority and the security of knowing that no other individual can truly take hold of his leash so that he can be as free as possible in an Empire where even the people in power are chained by something.

Certainly none of those things are untrue. They are a part of him.

But the true Nine, the one beneath the professionalism and selfish self-preservation is a cynic. He's seen the worst the world has to offer— from self-absorbed Sith, to people so xenophobic that they barely see him as a person, to Jedi who cannot live up to the ideals of their order. The optimistic attitude of Nine's youth— back when he had hopes and dreams and plans— is almost entirely gone. His loyalty to his people may remain— as indeed is more or less typical of his species— but the zeal of his youth, the idealist who wanted to serve his people and his people's allies is gone.

The best way to describe him when he allows the mask to slip would be "tired" and "jaded". The glitz and glamour he was once dazzled by has been stripped away and Nine now preemptively looks behind the curtain to see the trick— or as far as he's concerned— the trap behind it. Not that he often lets this jaded, negative part of him show unless he happens to be around someone who would call themself his superior.

Without the mask of professionalism stapled across it, Nine's attitude really depends.

While not naturally inclined to be standoffish, he can certainly come off that way— and most commonly does, especially in the beginning stages of a relationship. He's rather prickly and has a mouth on him that could make even a hardened pirate blush. He can come off as antagonistic due to how little he generally cares about anyone who is not either himself or one of his few friends. He doesn't sugarcoat much— from situations he finds himself in and to how he feels about someone. If he dislikes someone, he's not going to be shy about voicing that. Frankly put, he can easily be described as a selfish brat and a bit of a bitch when he's off the clock and isn't contractually obligated to be professional.

The bratty part of him can also come across as quite childish since it is when he's most selfish and the snark and language can be quite juvenile. Nine might be intelligent but that's not where his main source of pride lies so if someone wants to see him as rude and entitled and like a disobedient teenager then he's as apathetic towards that view of him as he is towards his gender.

Violence is also not unheard of from him— he's honestly rather good at it— though it generally won't be his go-to unless provoked. It is important to note that he can have quite the explosive temper though it's mostly a case of an excessive focus on self-preservation as well as his mind being damaged from the brainwashing he suffered that makes it difficult to regulate how much violence is enough violence.

Most commonly though, he will have an false sort of politeness or teasing and insincere sort of flirtatiousness to him, since those moods are easy for him to lean into given how much he uses them during work. The flirtatiousness he is willing to follow up on often than not since he knows how much intimacy can change people's overall views of someone— and he likes it when someone has some sort of emotional attachment toward him since that's easy to work with and manipulate.

Connecting with people emotionally on his end is risky and also often more trouble than it's worth— vulnerability goes against his instinct to protect himself so he tries to not do it much. Sleeping around however is a very easy way to feel good for a while and so long as he finds a person remotely attractive chances are he'll play up his promiscuous inclinations for some "no strings attached" fun. For work, it can be a requirement. On his own time it can just be enjoyable. And if he ends up having someone grow attached to him in ways he can use then that's even better. He likes having contacts.

Nine does also have something in his personality that comes closer to neutral— a gentler more detached version of himself that he only really allows out if he's around someone very young or if he perceives them to be innocent in a way. This version of him is more polite and a bit more patient though also more distant. Though it's not as intimate, it does come close to mimic how he is with his actual friends since this side of him is slightly kinder.

To those that do manage to get past his fifty layers of security, while not perfectly sweet, he does come close to it— there is that selfish ill-mannered brat part of him that keeps him from being perfectly pleasant even to his loved ones. But he's more laid-back than one would expect. He's unfailingly loyal to those who earn his love and his trust— much like he is to his people— and devoted to protecting those he cares for. With a true loved one he has this lazy sort of energy full of charm, mischievous grins, warmer more playfully affectionate flirtatiousness, in-jokes, love for sharing a good meal and good drinks, genuine laughter, and affection both voiced and physically expressed. A good example would be that he generally won't seek non-sexual affection from a target or acquaintance, but with a friend or lover he'll drape himself over them like an affectionate feline just because he feels like it. There's even some glimmers of an oddball in there, with unexpected hobbies and a surprising amount of will and energy to get into hijinks.

His somewhat cynical and sarcastic nature might remain given that he can't easily switch the snark off and his words even to his closest friends can have their barbs, but he's more willing to soothe and apologize if he sees any hurt (might tease them about it too though since they should know he doesn't mean anything by it) and more open to input and ideas, and more open to just setting his pride aside to just be with them in the moment.

Another important thing to note is that most of his external emotional responses is him playing at being human. Chiss don't tend to emote much, but Nine has long since learned that humans expect a certain type of response in their interactions and so he has learned to do as the humans do to avoid people becoming nervous around him since he has experienced violence from humans before that was a direct result out of not emoting in a way they recognized. Those particularly observant will likely notice that most of his expressions are a performance and more based in mimicry than they are a true representation of how someone would typically emote. When talking to non-humans or other Chiss however, he's less openly emotional and more like a standard member of his species.

All in all, the best way to describe Nine's existence, is it's complicated.

History:
Born in the Chiss Ascendancy on the resort world of Copero, Naiha'de'nzynne (or "Aden")'s early life was relatively peaceful. Though his parents were often busy with work, Nine had six older sisters for company and so he was rarely lonely in their small house near one of Copero's shipyards. His sisters were the ones doing most of the raising— a fact that Nine often resented as a child who wanted his parents— but that he grew to appreciate as he got older. His sisters are the ones who taught Nine how to cook, clean, and mend clothing— habits that Nine has brought with him into adulthood and made a hobby out of.

Though he came from humble beginnings Nine began excelling early on, hitting many milestones earlier than most. Though he still found plenty of opportunities to fit mischief into his schedule, most of his time began going to his education and combat training, while most of his childishness had to be left behind much too soon. Always energetic and upbeat, the young Chiss happily ran rings around fellow trainees and instructors alike and though he had a competitive and confident attitude with his peers it was far too good-natured to ever be called arrogance.

Leaving Copero and his family in his early teens, Nine was shipped off to the capital world Csilla, and after only a few years there became a member of the Ascendancy's secret police which was where he received his new assignment— to leave behind all that was familiar to serve the Ascendancy outside its borders by serving their ally, the Sith Empire. Wishing to be of use to his people, Nine saw no reason to refuse and so was sent off to the Empire to become an agent of Imperial Intelligence. There he very quickly learned that humans didn't see his mischief and competitive attitude in quite the same light as his fellow Chiss. Through several incidents early on in his Imperial training— one of which left him with scarring on his face— the optimistic idealist wishing to serve was instead replaced by a cynic with his guard up more often than not. His Chiss name was also abandoned around this time in favor of one humans could more easily pronounce. Naiha'de'nzynne became Aden Nahain, which was again later mostly abandoned for his designation "Cipher Nine"— though he continues to use Aden as his civilian identity, he does not internally identify as anything other than Nine.

Though Nine's ultimate loyalty is still to the Ascendancy, his experiences in the Empire and in Imperial Intelligence has made him more of a selfish creature and so when Darth Jadus promised him respect, power, and authority, Nine accepted his offer. Though he currently is not inclined toward either excessive cruelty nor excessive violence thanks to the positive influences of a few individuals he calls friends, he nonetheless flaunts his authority where he can and serves himself, the Ascendancy, and Lord Jadus— not always necessarily in that order.

Abilities:
  • Intelligence Training
Nine is trained as an agent of the Sith Empire. He's well-versed in combat— melee and ranged, armed and unarmed— a master of poisons that he can both create and knows how to effectively use, and familiar enough with anatomy of many different species to know where it hurts to be hit. His training makes him a rather deadly opponent, while his short and feminine frame makes for a perfect appearance with which to fool opponents. His training also makes it easier for him to get a read on his surroundings quickly, and his reaction speed tends to be rather impressive. Additionally, he also has medical training— enough to patch up small to moderate injuries.

  • Enhanced strength
As a Chiss, Nine has a higher base strength than a regular human would. This ties into his training as an agent as well, making him a combatant with surprising strength compared to his appearance. He is not so strong that he can easily fling larger targets with ease, but those who approach him like if he's a standard human often find themselves getting a rather nasty surprise.

  • Enhanced senses
Sight and hearing, in particular. His sight goes slightly into the infrared range and he is more sensitive to noise than a baseline human.

  • Mind reading/mind control resistance
Getting a read on Nine's mind is damn near impossible, as he keeps thoughts and emotions very guarded and is skilled at keeping just about anyone out of his mind. Trying to get a read on him is like trying to get a read on a block of ice— a trait shared by most Chiss. Controlling his mind through suggestion or even brainwashing is not possible as he reprogrammed his own mind to always allow him to be free.

  • Intelligence
While not a genius by any means, Nine is more intelligent than your average person. With his intelligence also comes complicated hobbies such as a proficiency in programming, hacking, building droids, repairing broken tech from computers to shuttles and the like, and a knowledge of how to craft his own weapons, along with the previously mentioned ability to create and use various kinds of poison, as well as drugs, assuming he has the necessary ingredients and tools to do so.

  • Technological Enhancements
Nine has an implant along his spine that blocks any signs of life when active. It also comes with a droid disguise capable of even fooling cameras. When the implant is active he can pass perfectly as a machine.
